Wandi by Favel Parrett

Wandi by Favel Parrett

I picked up Wandi after listening to an intriguing interview with Favel Parrett on the Middle Grade Mavens podcast. I’m so glad I did. This was a beautiful book to read with its gorgeous cover and simple and effective illustrations. It’s a book to learn from, being based on real events, while also being an engaging story told from deep inside Wandi’s perspective.

Wandi is an alpine dingo cub, snatched from his mother by an eagle and dropped far from home into a backyard. He is discovered by a Human who helps Wandi to find a new home with other dingoes. Because he is so rare, he becomes famous, with his own Instagram page.

The end of the book shares more information about dingoes with a facts section and a Q and A with Favel Parrett. Reading this book has given me a much greater understanding about the importance of dingoes in maintaining a healthy ecosystem in Australia. Highly recommended.
